I have just done the Math. I drive about 60 miles a week.
In 2 weeks I drive about 120 miles. I get 24 miles per gal when driving in the city. That amounts to 5 gals of gas I use in that period of time.
Governor Crist has come out with a great plan to eliminate the State Gas Tax for 2 weeks. The State gas Tax is $.10 a gal. That means I will be saving a grand total of $.50.
Thank you Governor Crist. I will quickly spend my savings to help our economy.
I can hardly wait for my big saving on my property Taxes.

I have my doubts if you will be doing any "Follow Up" on the story you had in today's paper about the lady pilot, BUT I feel I must give you some information to correct some of what you wrote. The first Woman's Transcontinental Air Race was not held by the 99s. The first race was held on Aug. 13th to Aug. 20th in 1929. At that time there were only about 100 women with pilot's licenses. The qualifications for entry were that the lady had to have at least 100 hrs of solo time, and 25 hrs of solo cross country time. Only about 40 qualified and only 20 entered the race. It was won by Louise Thaden.. Amelia Earhart was in the race. That same year, Amelia Earhart asked to join a men's flying organization . The Quiet Birdmen. Her request was denied. So she sent out a call to all the women pilots, with the intent of forming a woman's flying group. 99 women responded. Thus the name . 99s It was just in existence to allow women to get together as a group with similar interests. It was NOT an "Air Show" group. They did not, as a group, do aerobatics (not acrobatics) The Women's Air Derby became the "Powder Puff Derby" in 1947 when being humorously named by Will Rogers. It continued until 1977 when it became too costly and sponsors were difficult to find.. Many famous women Pilots , and many not so famous women pilots, (my wife among them) were and are 99s.

I am not sure how many know the History of delegates, but when this Country was first formed there was very poor transportation and a lack of communication. Consequently when the people in a State cast their votes, a person or persons were "Delegated" to cast their VOTES in an "Electoral College".
BUT also, at that time, the average Voter was not considered "Smart" enough to vote properly, so the Delegates did not HAVE to vote for the person the voters wanted elected. This continued until a ruling was made that they DID have to cast their ballots for the Candidate who got the most votes, BUT ONLY ON THE FIRST BALLOT. After that they were free to vote for whomever they wished. As far as I know, that rule is still in place. Sooo If neither of the Democratic candidates have enough delegate votes to win the nomination on the first ballot, the nomination is up for grabs by ANYONE. Even someone who is not in the top TWO.

What has happened to our freedom of speech and of expression? How can one person have a book removed from a school system library, because HE does not like a specific word? What book will he want to be removed next? What will be the next word that will cause more books to be removed? It sounds like the middle ages where they had book burning.
Not only that, but the words keep changing. A word that makes everyone happy becomes one that is "Objectionable" because someone's feelings might get hurt. Give me a break. There are thousands of words that SOMEONE may find objectionable, but if we removed them all we would have NO books.
Is it really because this man wants his daughter "Protected"? Or is it racial? Removing the book does not remove the word. If a word is offensive, either ignore it, or don't allow your child to read it; but stopping ALL children from reading it is NOT acceptable.

I just drove to Dunedin and saw gas prices at $3.59. I still do not hear people getting MAD. I blame that on the media. Months ago they predicted $4.00 a gal gas. Now the Oil companies are doing their best to make it come true. So, I guess people are just expecting it. BUT they do not really understand what is happening.
Their natural tendency is to blame it on either the Middle East Cartel or on the Gas companies. I am more of the belief that it is the fault of the People who BID on OIL FUTURES. They are the ones who keep pushing the price of oil skyward. Naturally, after they corner the market, the Oil companies have to buy it from them, at a good (bad) markup or they have no oil to convert to gas. Of course then the oil companies have to get their cut. But if you watch the price of oil it is all about the Futures. If they would refuse to bid the price up, oil would come down and we would get back to normal. Unfortunately I can not see them giving up the large amounts of money they could possibly lose by allowing someone else to out bid them. I am not sure if any kind of LAW could be passed to stop this from happening, and if they tried it I am sure lobbyists would find a way to stop it from passing.
