I was just listening to TV today and watching the progress of Rita, and the announcer was giving a list of things that people should have in preparation for an emergency. One of which was a "Battery Powered Radio" I have 2, BUT I would not know which station (number AM or FM) to tune to, to get information. Years ago we started with 911, and it has been a tremendous success. Why could there not be a 'DEDICATED" emergency RADIO station ???? Possibly use 911 AM, or 91.1 FM. That way everyone would know which station to tune to, instead of getting a lot of caned music. Has this ever been done? Could Florida be the first? Especially since we are exposed to many Hurricanes which demand information be gotten to our residents. The station would not have to be on ALL the time, just for , say, a week before a potential problem.Or, it could be used for other things, such as an "Amber Alert" , or notifications of Traffic problems, and criminal actions. In that case the cost could be shared by local authorities. A lot of these things are only found on TV but Everybody has a car radio. I am sure there are many more reasons why something like this could be used, and be beneficial.
